The lost practice of pranayama

If breath is the bridge between body and mind, and an integral part of a yoga practice, why aren’t we paying more attention to it?

Pranayama practice - Always Yoga Online Studio

prana” - vital life force; breath

yama” - control; regulation

Pranayama is the practice of harnessing the breath to regulate the flow of prana (life force) in the body. Pranayama can be utilised before, during and after an asana class, and is a great preparation and tool for meditation.

Pranayama is an often rushed or neglected part of a yoga class, overshadowed by the popular focus on postures. Whether due to a lack of understanding, or time, or reverance to this important limb (it comes directly after asana in the 8 limbs of yoga), it has somehow become a forgotten practice in many modern yoga classes.

We want to change that. Join us for a 7 Day Pranayama Challenge — 14 practices to re-introduce you to the power of your breath and its influence on your nervous system. Each day, join us for two short practices - one energising, up-regulating practice, and one soothing, down-regulating practice.

You can find more info on the challenge here.

With love,

Emilie & Julie
